Test patches are carried out to determine the treatment parameters and to judge how your skin might react to a full treatment. A test patch is a small trial in an area with similar hair and skin to the treatment site and allows the practitioner to assess how well the light energy is being absorbed and whether the skin is responding as would be expected.
Clients are asked to make a note of any redness or swelling and how long it takes to reduce following the test patch, also whether or not the skin blisters or feels excessively hot and for how long.
The area to be treated should be free from make-up, perfume, deodorant and body or face creams. Be careful when using spray deodorant prior to treatment.
Avoid waxing, plucking, hair removal creams and bleaching for one month prior to hair removal treatments. Hair should be shaved prior to treatment and be no longer than 1mm in length.
There should be no active or fake tan in the area to be treated. Use of sunbeds or prolonged exposure to sunlight is not allowed in the month prior to treatment and an SPF30 must be used on the area between treatments. Suntans must be left to fade completely before treatment can start. Fake tans must also be fully faded before treated can commence.
We reserve the right to charge for any appointment booked but abandoned due to active sun-tan or fake tan.
A medical history is taken at consultation, but we rely on you to inform us of any changes to this. We need to know of any medication you are taking including those bought from a chemist or herbalist.
Make sure that you arrive in good time for your appointment; this will allow us to pre-cool the skin if this should be required.
In order to minimise skin heating and to reduce the likelihood of skin reactions, the treatment area may be cooled before, during and after the procedure. If the area still feels hot at home you can apply a cold flannel or cool pack. Do not allow ice packs or ice into direct contact with the skin.
Following treatment, the area may appear red and raised and you may experience a tingling sensation. This is completely normal and should settle over the next few days.
Occasionally you may experience swelling or bruising and this can last anything from1-2 days up to 1-2 weeks. If you experience swelling, it is usually worse one to two days following treatment. If it follows a treatment to a facial area, sleeping with your head raised on pillows will minimise its appearance. Ice packs will also help to reduce the swelling. If your skin is particularly sensitive and prone to histamine reactions, you may also wish to consider taking an anti-histamine medication.
Following vascular treatments a bruise may appear at the treated area. This may last up to 15 days and as the bruise fades there may be brown discolouration of the skin. This usually fades in 1-3 months. When larger vessels are treated they may take on a darker colour. Again this may take up to four weeks to resolve as the body re-absorbs the damaged vessels.
Make-up can be applied after several hours, if the skin is not sore or broken. However, we advise caution if the area if feeling sensitive. Remove make-up carefully as the skin can cause irritation or infection. If the skin at the treatment area becomes broken, then make-up should be avoided.
Care should be taken to avoid trauma to the treated area for 4 or 5 days afterwards. Avoid strenuous activities, sauna and steam, excessively hot baths, massaging etc.
Wash and bathe as normal but take cool showers rather than hot baths. The skin should be patted dry and not rubbed. Use Lynton Light Soothe Serum to keep the area moisturised and the skin protected. If there is any discomfort, treat the area as you would sunburn.
Use a sunscreen (SPF30+) and protect the area from sunlight as much as possible between treatments and for at least one month after the treatment ends. Failure to do this can lead to sunburn and hyper-pigmentation of the treated area. (Most cases of changes in pigmentation occur when the treated area has been exposed to sunlight, or in people with darker skin types).
If blistering occurs contact the clinic immediately for further advice. Keep the area clean and dry and allow it to heal naturally. Do not use any lotions or creams on open skin as this may increase the risk of infection. DO NOT pick grazes or blisters - as this may increase the chance of a scar occurring. Once the skin has healed, a high protection sunscreen should be used daily for 12 months to prevent pigmentation changes to the skin.
It is important to follow these simple steps carefully for at least 24 hours after epilation treatment. This will help reduce the risk of infection and promote healing.
If your skin is sensitive, continue with aftercare until the skin returns to normal. Always contact me if you are unsure.
You may experience slight redness and a feeling of warmth in the area treated immediately after treatment, which will normally subside within 48 hours, providing you follow the instructions below.

Pin dot crusts or small scabs may appear in the treated area.
The skin may itch as the healing process takes place.
Pin dot crusts or scabs may appear which seal the skin and prevent infection. These must not be rubbed or picked off, as to do so may result in scarring. The crusts or scabs are tiny and are often ‘felt’ rather than ‘seen’.
Do not touch, rub or irritate the treated area.
When washing and cleansing, use a gentle soap or perfume free cleanser and gently pat the area dry to avoid dislodging any crusts or scabs.
Avoid activities for 48 hours that stimulate blood flow following vascular treatments e.g. exercise, hot showers, hot baths, spicy foods and alcohol.
Avoid activities for 48 hours that may irritate or dislodge any crusts or scabs e.g. swimming, sauna, steam rooms, facial steaming, facial scrubs, waxing and other beauty treatments until the area is completely healed.

You must keep out of the UV light completely during the healing process and as much as possible thereafter.

Avoid the possible cause of vascular blemishes, for example wearing tight fitting glasses, squeezing spots, careless or erratic tweezing or blowing your nose too vigorously.
Avoid using any possible skin sensitisers or irritants such as perfumes, fake tan products and perfumed body lotions until skin is healed.

Use of Alumier MD home care products prior to your peel is recommended to prepare the skin, allow for better treatment results and reduce the risk of complications. Please consult your skin therapist for appropriate recommendations for your skin type and condition.
For best results and reduce the risk of complications, it is recommended that you use Alumier MD products for 10/14 days prior to treatment.
If you are lactating, pregnant or may be pregnant consult your doctor before receiving any treatment.

Alumier MD skin treatments result in minimal to no down time but can create dramatic and visible results.
Treatment can cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking and temporary dryness. Most patients do not find it necessary to apply make up, as the skin will be smooth, dewy and radiant following your treatment.
You have just received an Alumier MD skin treatment.
Due to the nature of these treatments, you should not necessarily expect to 'peel'. However, you may have light to moderate flaking in a few localised areas for 3 to 7 days. You may also experience residual redness, which lasts in most patients from 1 to 12 hours.
It is recommended that you do not apply makeup the day of the treatment. It is ideal to allow the skin to stabilise and rest over night. However, makeup can be applied, if necessary.
Tonight your skin will feel 'tight' and 'pulled'. Although you may or may not actually 'peel' it is likely that you will feel light 'exfoliation'. It may take 2 or more treatments to target the deeper layers of skin to loosen and 'peel'.
Avoid direct sunlight exposure and excessive heat.

Drink plenty of water before and after treatments.

Starting a few days after your appointment scrub the skin 3 times a week in the bath or shower using a body scrub or exfoliating mitt. Also, moisture every day, which will keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through normally.
You may notice a small amount of regrowth after a week or so. It can take up to 4 treatments for your hair to get on a growth cycle that gives better results. Hair needs to be at least 1/2 cm before it can be successfully removed by waxing; PLEASE DO NOT SHAVE between appointments.
To maintain a smooth appearance it's recommended you have a regular wax every 4-6 weeks
