Positive Skin Clinic uses unrivalled, specialist equipment supplied by the UK’s No.1 manufacturer – Lynton Lasers. Medically CE marked and favoured by medical practitioners in the NHS, the LUMINA provides dramatic results for various skin concerns.

All staff have received in-depth, comprehensive training, covering the key fundamentals of laser & IPL, and most importantly: how to achieve highly clinically effective results, whist keeping our clients safety as the primary objective.

How does light assisted hair removal work?

Light is selectively absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells.

How is treatment carried out?

The Intense Pulsed Light is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, which targets many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.

Frequently asked questions

Does it hurt?

Treatment sensation varies depending on your pain threshold, but is often described as “a flick of an elastic band” and is perfectly acceptable by most people.  A cooling gel is applied prior to the area being treated, which helps reduce the sensation of heat.

How many treatments will I need?

The treatment requires the hair to be in the growing phase of its cycle which normally occurs every 4 weeks, this makes it necessary to have a full course of 8 treatments spaced out every 4-6 weeks to ensure all hairs in the area are targeted in the growing stage.

Once a course is completed, in order to maintain the results a maintenance session is required every 6 months.

Am I suitable for the treatment?

Most people are suitable for treatment. Best results are often achieved with clients who have fair skin and dark hair. Dark hair is more easily treated as it has a high concentration of melanin.

Fair hair however, contains less melanin and is harder to treat. This is why we ask for your hair colour to ascertain if the treatment will be successful for you.

Grey/white hair has no melanin so is not suitable for treatment.

Where treatment by IPL is not suitable for you, we can recommend Electrolysis hair removal which works with all hair and skin colours.

How long does the hair have to be?

The hair can be kept however you want in between treatments so long as only shaving is used and can be close shaved before the treatment session.

What can I do with the hair in between treatments?

The hair must not leave the hair follicle unless with IPL. In between treatments cutting or shaving is recommended. You must not wax or tweeze, this can hinder the treatments and it can take longer for the hair to go.

Can you guarantee 100% that you can get rid of all hair?

No-one can ever give you a 100% guarantee that no hair regrowth will occur following IPL. We would advise caution before using any clinic that claims otherwise. However we stand behind our experience of permanently reducing the hairs we treat.

What will I see after the treatment?

The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. During this period the hairs will seem to ‘grow’ as they are pushed out by the new epidermis.

Are there any side effects?

The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours.

Adverse reactions are rare but may include a small blister or temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatments can take as little as 10 minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area.
